ICC introduces stop-clock rule, reserve days for T20 & ODI matches

New Delhi: The International Cricket Council (ICC) has decided to implement a stop-clock rule change in all T20 and ODI matches during the ICC T20 World Cup 2024. The decision was taken by the ICC Board during their meeting in Dubai this week.

The stop-clock rule change means that each field will have to start a new over within 60 seconds of the completion of the previous over. A minimum of five overs must be bowled by the fielding side to constitute a game. In the knock-out stages, a minimum of 10 overs will need to be bowled.

The ICC also introduced reserve days for the semi-finals and final of the tournament. According to the ICC, a minimum of five overs have to be bowled by the team batting second to constitute a game. In the knock-out stages, a minimum of ten overs will need to be bowled.

The results of a stop-clock trial conducted by the ICC showed that the game time was reduced by an average of 20 minutes per over. The ICC Board believes that the stop-clock rule change will improve the flow of the game and help to create a more level playing field for the teams.

The ICC T20 World Cup 2024 will be held between June 1 and 2024 in Dubai. The tournament will feature 12 automatic qualifiers and will witness eight matches in the semi-finals and final. The qualification process for the event will also be held in India and Sri Lanka.
