The International Ice Hockey Federation has ruled Russian goaltender Ivan Fedotov has a valid contract with the Philadelphia Flyers for the 2023-24 season and was in breach of contract rules when he signed with the KHL’s CSKA Moscow last month.

“In accordance with Article II.4.1 of the IIHF International Transfer Regulations, Ivan Fedotov was given two (2) weeks to either go back to his former club (i.e Philadelphia Flyers Hockey Club); or obtain a release from his former club,” the IIHF said.
Because neither occurred, the IIHF has given Fedotov a four-month suspension from playing in national or international games.
The IIHF also has given CSKA Moscow a one-year ban on international transfers.
The Flyers were arguing that Fedotov’s entry-level contract, signed last year, should be tolled because he took last year off hockey while completing military service.
Last summer, Russian media outlets reported Fedotov had been detained on charges he evaded military service.
There is a mandatory one year of service for Russian men.
Fedotov, 26, helped CSKA Moscow win the KHL title in 2021-22, going 14-10-2 with a 2.00 goals-against average and .919 save percentage.
Fedotov also helped the Russians win silver at the 2022 Beijing Olympics.
The Flyers picked Fedotov in the seventh round (188th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
