IIM students’ unique ‘AC helmets’ to beat scorching summer: Used by Vadodara traffic police

With the onset of summers in India, scorching heat waves have been troubling everyone, especially the ones who have to spend their days outside. Keeping this in mind, IIM students in Vadodara, Gujarat, have developed a unique solution – air-conditioned helmets that provide relief in high temperatures.
The helmets are designed to be battery-operated, providing much-needed cool air circulation around the wearer’s head during long shifts under the harsh sun.The Vadodara traffic police department has already begun distributing these AC helmets to its personnel. Around 450 traffic police officers deployed during the hottest hours of the day have been equipped with these innovative helmets.

The affordability and scalability of the design will be crucial factors in determining whether these AC helmets become a standard piece of equipment for traffic police across India, along with common people.
Heat-related illnesses such as heat exhaustion and heatstroke can pose serious health risks, especially in hot and humid conditions. AC helmets can help mitigate these risks by keeping the wearer cool and reducing the likelihood of heat-related ailments. Furthermore, it will also help in promoting safety gear for motorists. It is always recommended to wear a helmet while going for a two-wheeler ride as these are meant to protect you from severe injuries in case of accidents. Not wearing a helmet while on the road is a punishable offense.
