Immediate Recall of Lolly Due to Risk of Fatality

Consumers have been warned to dispose of a novelty lollipop sold across Australia over fears it could cause choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children.

The Novelty Pops lollipop sold with a spinning toy are being urgently recalled due to a button battery in the toy sold alongside the sweet treat.

According to a recall notice from the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission, the compartment containing the button battery is not secured and the batteries may be easily accessed.

The notice also claims the product does not have the mandatory warning symbols and information.

“There is a risk of choking, severe internal burn injuries or death to young children if they gain access to the button batteries and swallow or insert them,” the recall states.

“Consumers may be unaware that the product contains a button battery.”

The product has been sold across Australia at small independent supermarkets, retail shops and milk bars. It was available at IGA’s Campbells Cash & Carry, Sweetcraft, The Lolly Bug shop and The Professors Shop.

The product was available for sale between March 21 2023 and May 10 2023.
