Indian Railways to Commence Inaugural International Train Services between India and Bhutan in the Near Future

The Indian Railways is set to launch its first-ever international train services between India and Bhutan. The train will operate from Assam, India, and aims to boost tourism between the two countries. The initiative comes as Bhutan expresses keen interest in increasing tourist access points. The railway connection is expected to be completed by 2026 and will connect Bhutan’s Gelephu and India’s Assam region. Additionally, Indian External Affairs Minister Dr S Jaishankar mentioned that talks regarding border issues between India and China have not been halted and that both countries have made progress on key tension points in recent years.
