Introducing Subaru’s Latest Rallying Sensation: The All-New WRX in America

Subaru, with its rich history in rallying spanning over four decades, recently introduced its latest vehicle, the Subaru Motorsports WRX Rally. While not an STI, this WRX packs a punch with 320 horsepower, adhering to class regulations, making it the ultimate rally car coveted by enthusiasts. Although the car is not available for purchase, Subaru’s partner, Vermont SportsCar, might consider selling it in the future. In the meantime, attendees can catch a glimpse of the Subaru Motorsports WRX Rally during the American Rally Association Championship, starting at the Ojibwe Forests Rally in Detroit Lakes, Minnesota, on August 24 and 25. Moreover, legendary driver Travis Pastrana will be behind the wheel of one of these cars in ARA competition.

According to Subaru, the new rally car was meticulously developed by technical partner Vermont SportsCar to meet the ARA Open 4WD specifications and regulations, focusing on maximum performance. Beginning with the first Subaru WRX sold in the US, the team spent 18 months designing, building, and testing the car before its recent debut. Powering the vehicle is a specially crafted turbocharged and intercooled 2.0-liter 4-cylinder boxer engine, complying with class requirements, including a mandated 33mm restrictor and 22psi boost limit. This engine churns out an impressive 320 horsepower and 380 lb-ft. of torque, transmitted to all four wheels through a SADEV six-speed close-ratio transmission. R53 Suspension provides the springs and dampers, working in tandem with VSC-designed crossmembers, links, and hubs, ensuring optimal control on any terrain encountered by the Yokohama 15-inch ADVAN A053 gravel rally tires.

Safety is a paramount concern for Subaru and Vermont SportsCar. The development of the new car prioritized driver and co-driver safety, featuring a fully seam-welded body shell and an FIA/USAC-spec roll cage constructed from T45 steel. Additionally, the stock WRX gas tank was replaced by an 82-liter Kevlar fuel cell, and the Sparco ADV Prime competition seats come equipped with HANS devices, self-extinguishing fabric liner, and FIA approved energy-absorbing padding.

Subaru remains optimistic about the future of rally racing in the United States and aims to contribute to its growth. As we anticipate the excitement this brings, Subaru has shared several captivating photos of their new rally car.
