Retra has recently announced the release of its latest Flash strobe models, namely the Flash Pro Max, Flash Prime+, and Flash Pure. These three models differ in terms of power and features. The Flash Pro Max, being the top-of-the-line model, has an output of 140 Watt-seconds (Ws) and includes features like a leakage detection system, a back panel OLED display, and high-speed sync (HSS) functionality. The Flash Prime+ is the midrange model with an output of 90Ws and shares the same features as the Pro Max, excluding the back panel display. Lastly, the entry-level model, the Flash Pure, has an output of 70Ws and lacks both the leakage detection system, the back panel display, and HSS. Intriguingly, the Flash Pro Max and Flash Prime+ have 10Ws less maximum power compared to their predecessors, the Flash Pro X and Flash Prime X. According to Retra, the latest strobes have undergone a complete redesign of their electronics resulting in the new models requiring less power to produce the same level of light output. The optical triggering system has also been improved to be more reliable, allowing the strobes to fire even when using sub-optimal fiber optic cables. Additionally, the control dials have been enhanced to be more durable and easier to use, especially with gloves. One of the significant updates is the redesigned battery compartment, which now accommodates four AA batteries as standard and an additional four AAs when the Booster is added. Unlike the Supercharger, which protruded significantly behind the strobe in previous models, the Booster only extends a small distance. The Booster doubles battery life and halves recycle time, according to Retra. The Flash Pro Max, Flash Prime+, and Flash Pure can be purchased from retailers like Backscatter and are priced at $1,575, $1,250, and $1,025, respectively. The Booster is available for $185.
