Investment Boom: Gujarat’s global appeal draws carmakers, chipmakers, and more giants

Despite accounting for only about six percent of India’s geographical area and nearly five percent of the population, Gujarat has emerged as a driving force behind the country’s development, attracting world-renowned companies for business ventures, reported PTI citing officials. The state boasts over 200 industrial estates and close to 100 private industrial parks, as highlighted by the Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit (VGGS) official website.The upcoming 10th edition of VGGS, the state’s biennial investors’ meet, is set to take place next month in Gandhinagar. Gujarat’s strategic focus on sector-specific investments and infrastructure is evident in the announcement of several sector-specific industrial parks.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the pivotal role of Gujarat in the country’s development, noting the presence of over 100 Fortune 500 global companies, including Suzuki, Honda, Hitachi, and Toyota. Rahul Bharti, Executive Director (Corporate Affairs) at Maruti Suzuki India Limited, attributed their significant investment in Gujarat to the state government’s understanding of investors’ needs, providing robust infrastructure, ease of doing business, and forward-looking policies.
Maruti Suzuki and its vendor partners have collectively invested over Rs 28,000 crore in the state, generating employment for more than 1 lakh people.
Airbus International’s head, Christian Scherrer, expressed confidence in investing in Gujarat, acknowledging the trust and responsibility placed by the Indian government in Airbus. Scherrer highlighted the partnership’s commitment to building an excellent final assembly line in Gujarat. Additionally, chip maker Micron Technology announced a $2.75-billion plant in Sanand near Ahmedabad, citing the state’s dedicated semiconductor policy as a contributing factor to this decision. Gujarat’s attractiveness for diverse industries reflects its success in fostering a conducive environment for business growth and development.
