James Gunn, the filmmaker behind the upcoming Superman movie, made a surprising announcement on the first day of filming. He revealed that the film, originally titled “Superman: Legacy,” will now simply be called “Superman.”

Gunn explained that while he initially named the movie “Superman: Legacy” after finishing the first draft of the script, he eventually decided to drop the subtitle.

He shared this update in a post marking the commencement of filming, also teasing a release date of July 2025.
Accompanying his announcement was an image of the Superman logo from the film, featuring a snowy texture that hints at a scene set in The Fortress of Solitude, Superman’s icy hideaway.
The movie stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent/Superman and Rachel Brosnahan as Daily Planet reporter Lois Lane. Nicholas Hoult will portray the classic villain Lex Luthor.
Warner Bros. has set a release date of July 11, 2025, for the film, marking the first standalone Superman project in over a decade since Zack Snyder’s “Man of Steel,” starring Henry Cavill.
The star-studded cast also includes Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner, among others.
Gunn, who is both writing and directing the movie, has expressed a personal connection to the Superman character. In a previous interview, he shared that he relates to Superman as someone who feels like an outsider but also possesses immense power and influence.

With Gunn at the helm, fans can expect a fresh take on the iconic superhero, as the production of “Superman” unfolds with its updated title and ambitious vision for the beloved character’s cinematic future.
