Jamie Foxx is addressing a misunderstanding surrounding a social media post that has since been deleted. The post received criticism from some for being antisemitic.
On Saturday, the actor used his Instagram to apologize to the Jewish community and anyone who was offended by his post. He acknowledged that his choice of words caused offense and expressed remorse, stating that it was never his intention to do so.
Foxx’s message referred to a previous post, which is no longer visible on his feed. The deleted post said, “They killed this dude named Jesus… What do you think they’ll do to you???!”. He ended the post with the hashtags #fakefriends and #fakelove.
Some critics interpreted the use of “they” in the post as referring to the Jewish people. Antisemitism has historically been associated with the belief that Jews are responsible for the death of Jesus.
In his Saturday message, Foxx clarified that he meant “they” as a betrayal by a fake friend and nothing more. He emphasized his love and support for the Jewish community and offered his deepest apologies to anyone who was offended.
These posts come after Foxx’s undisclosed “medical complication” that hospitalized him earlier this year.
Recently, the “Ray” star publicly acknowledged his sister Deidra Dixon for saving his life in a birthday tribute video.
