Actor Jeremy Renner surprised first responders and hospital workers on Friday with a heartfelt visit to thank them for saving his life one year ago.

On Jan. 1, 2023, the 52-year-old actor was trying to get a relative’s car out of a snowbank at Renner’s Lake Tahoe home. While using his 7-ton Pistenbully snow groomer, Renner exited the cab and the snowplow rolled onto him. Renner was badly crushed, breaking over 30 bones. Remarkably, he was extricated and rushed to Renown Regional Medical Center in Reno, where he underwent emergency surgery. He was critical condition for days until his health began improving; he was released from the hospital several weeks later.

“One year ago, our friend Jeremy Renner suffered a catastrophic injury that nearly ended his life,” Truckee Meadows Fire and Rescue wrote on social media Friday. “Our skilled firefighters/paramedics from Station 39 responded first to the scene and took action that contributed to saving his life. Today he visited our crews to express gratitude.”

“Paying my respects and celebrating love, life and the blessings it brings to us all. Thank you and this community for keeping me here,” Renner wrote on Instagram. “I’m forever in your debt with gratitude.”

Renner, who stars on the Paramount+ show “Mayor of Kingstown,” is also due to be back at work again. His co-star Emma Laird celebrated his return to set for filming on the series’ third season.
