Shinn rode Little Mix to victory, but pleaded guilty to overuse of the whip with 10 strikes prior to the 100m and 15 strikes in total.

The 36-year-old, who won the Melbourne Cup on Viewed in 2008, was suspended for eight meetings and fined $2000.

Shinn picked up another win on Picaroon on Thursday and is the equal top jockey at the end of the third day of the Melbourne Cup carnival.

He will still be able to ride on Stakes Day on Saturday with his ban starting on Sunday, November 19.

Shinn will be allowed to return to the saddle the following Sunday.

Egan, who was runner-up to Little Mix on Rebadge, had nine strikes prior to the 100m and 17 strikes in total.

He was suspended for nine meetings and fined $750.

His suspension also begins on Sunday, November 19 and will be eligible to return on Monday, November 27.

The two bans follow similar incidents on Melbourne Cup Day when Damian Lane and Craig Newit both copped 10-meeting suspensions.

Melbourne Cup winning jockey Mark Zahra was also charged, but escaped with a $500 fine and avoided a ban despite only recently serving a suspension for breaching whip rules.

Meanwhile, Racing Victoria stewards also charged Kembla Grange trainer Ben Smith with improper conduct.

Smith, who’s three-year-old filly Vieste was scratched from the VRC Oaks, used inappropriate language when exiting the stewards’ room and was issued with a $1000 fine.
