Dynamite is thrilled to announce that Red Sonja, one of their most beloved characters, will be celebrated at this year’s San Diego Comic-Con. The publisher has organized a panel that will not only reminisce about the character’s legacy and past but also delve into her future, which includes new comics and novels. Excitingly, attendees will also be treated to the exclusive debut of a teaser trailer for her upcoming Millennium Media film, starring Matilda Lutz. The panel will take place on Friday, July 21, from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM in room 5AB. Leading the panel will be Red Sonja, LLC president, Luke Lieberman, who is also the executive editor and a producer for the film. He will be joined by franchise contributors such as Jimmy Palmiotti, Amanda Conner, Amy Chu, Dan Panosian, producer Mark Canton, and other special guests.
Dynamite shared more about Red Sonja’s impressive journey. Her story began in comics in 1973, and even after 50 years, she remains the greatest sword-and-sorcery female heroine. Fans from all over the world have fallen in love with this She-Devil With a Sword. Red Sonja’s stories have been brought to life by a talented range of writers and artists, including Roy Thomas, Frank Thorne, Gail Simone, Mirka Andolfo, Mike Carey, Michael Avon Oeming, Jim Zub, Louise Simonson, Mark Russell, Alex Ross, Mel Rubi, and many more. To celebrate the anniversary, Dynamite will launch a new epic series by Torunn Grønbekk and Walter Geovani, with the first issue being released in sync with San Diego Comic-Con. Additionally, a surprise comic series by a top creator will be revealed during the panel.
Attendees of the panel will have the privilege of being the first to see a teaser trailer for the highly anticipated Millennium Media film. Starring Matilda Lutz as the fearsome warrior, Wallis Day as Annisia, and Robert Sheehan as Draygan, the film will be directed by M.J. Bassett and feature a script written by Tasha Huo. The audience will also get to enjoy a fun tribute video from some of the biggest creators associated with the character. Important details from the panel will be widely shared with fans after the event.
In other news, Dynamite announced that the first issue of their new Red Sonja series has already received confirmed orders of over 72,000 copies. To meet the anticipated high demand, Dynamite plans to initially print over 85,000 copies. Written by Torunn Grønbekk and illustrated by Walter Geovani, the book follows Sonja as she reflects on her journey, contemplates her destiny, and embarks on her next adventure. The series features stunning cover art by Shannon Maer, Jim Cheung, Jenny Frison, Kevin Eastman, Mike Mignola, Alan Quah, Bryan Hitch, Mike Mignola, Joshua Middleton, Frank Cho, Stephen Platt, InHyuk Lee, and more. Red Sonja #1 will be available in stores on July 19.
