Filmmaker Karan Johar, who hosted a trial show ahead of the release of his latest film, ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani‘, reveals that hosting trial shows is the worst mistake that he keeps making.
In a recent conversation with Galatta Plus, Karan Johar expressed his frustration with the industry practice of hosting trial shows ahead of releases and said that he always promises himself to not fall into this trap but is never able to avoid it.
The filmmaker also listed all the different kinds of reactions that he has become accustomed to at preview screenings and said that they’re all useless because he’s usually too stressed out at the time for honest feedback. He went on to say that those trial shows are the worst.
According to him, the industry comes and sits on a high horse. There are those that’ll walk out of a screening and give that look, like ‘well done.’ The filmmaker added that there’s a very annoying section of people who all come and say, ‘Can I be honest?’. Karan promptly replies to them, “No, you can’t! My film is releasing tomorrow; praise me and go home.”
Karan went on to say that he repeatedly falls into this trap, film after film. According to him, the industry will break the film into the first half and second half, but the audience does not do that. This is a trade phenomenon; nobody in the audience breaks a film into halves.
