Kendall Jenner has used her impressive nine Met Gala appearances as opportunities to shape-shift before our very eyes. The chameleonic Vogue cover star has proven that she is always down to try out new looks, from her daring La Perla sheer moment in 2017 to her bleached eyebrows at the 2022 Met.
Whether it’s leaning into Vegas showgirl camp with Versace, goth glam with Prada, or quiet elegance with Raf Simons’s Calvin Klein, the show-stopping factor of Jenner’s outfits have steadily been turning up. When it comes to the Met Gala, Jenner seems to stick pretty closely to her typical style codes: simple but effective elegance. Many of her gowns have been crafted in timeless shades, such as beige, white, and black.
In 2021, she teamed up with Matthew M. Williams of Givenchy for a nod to Audrey Hepburn (a noted fan of the French house). That year, the star wore a semi-sheer, embellished gown featuring countless gems, inspired by Hepburn’s character in My Fair Lady. And of course there was that one year she opted for her sister act with Kylie, both wearing feathered ensembles by Versace—Kendall’s in a shocking shade of orange.
A particularly poignant look from Jenner’s Met Gala canon was in 2019, when she attended the gala in an Off White jumpsuit and accompanied the label’s founder, the late Virgil Abloh. “We worked together really heavily on creating this look for me, most of our conversations were over FaceTime,” Jenner said while revisiting the outfit for Vogue’s “Life in Looks.” “You always felt comfortable and safe in his arms.”
In the past two years, Jenner has played with black. In 2022, she rocked a voluminous two-piece Prada set, while in 2023, she wore a cheeky Marc Jacobs bodysuit—complete with the designer’s iconic Kiki boots. But we wouldn’t be surprised to see her deviate from that color palette for the more botanical 2024 Met, “Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion.” Though, we never know—the model is full of surprises. We’re excited to see what she brings next at this year’s Met Gala on May 6—her 10th to date!
