Here in New York City, the weather has gone from unbearably hot to a chilly, constant downpour, making it a challenging week for getting dressed. But nobody’s taking the weather in stride quite like Kerry Washington, who just taught a masterclass in transitional dressing.
The actor has been promoting her forthcoming memoir Thicker Than Water on the talkshow circuit today, stopping by Good Morning America before joining Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live. Leaving GMA, Washington wore a white sleeveless dress with a high-necked, ruffled bib. Underneath her summery, ankle-length maxi, she wore a pair of black suede stiletto boots with a pointed toe, and carried a white clutch.

Later on in the day, when the Scandal star headed to Watch What Happens, she added an edgy jacket to her ensemble that perfectly demonstrated how to bring a summer dress into fall, while giving it an entirely new feel. Washington wore a black leather moto jacket over her sweet white maxi, letting the ruffly collar peek out from over the lapels of her outerwear. It worked perfectly with the boots, tying it all together.
