Kiran Rao is gearing up for the release of her next film ‘Laapataa Ladies‘, 14 years after her directorial debut ‘Dhobi Ghaat’. The director is had got a lot of accolades for her debut which is remembered till date. Meanwhile, ‘Laapataa Ladies’ is produced by Aamir and directed by Kiran and the duo have been speaking about being comfortable working with each other post their divorce.
Aamir and Kiran tied the knot in 2005 and they announced their separation in 2021. But they continue to remain friends. Infact, Kiran had said that her relationship with Aamir is not dependent on marriage. They’ll always be family. In a recent interview with SoSouth, Kiran said that she is emotionally connected to Aamir after having spent 15 years with him. She added that she feels protective of him and is connected to his achievements and failures as anyone who is family would.
However, the director said that she was independent and had her own life when she married Aamir. But now, they associate her more to Aamir. Though, people’s perceptions do not really bother her after a point. She had added, “I do have to say at airports or any public place when people come to me and say, ‘You are…’ and they expect me to complete it and say, ‘I am Kiran Rao, Aamir Khan’s wife.’ I mean ex-wife. That bothers me because people kind of recognise me sometimes and they’re not sure but they know me through Aamir. That’s very annoying.”
‘Laapataa Ladies’ as a script idea was also brought to her by Aamir who told her a one-liner and she was stuck to it. The film is releasing on March 1.
