‘Kmart shoppers vent over latest security measure: ‘So annoying’

Kmart customers have spoken out about an “annoying” new security measure at stores across the country.

Sharing on social media, shoppers have voiced their frustration over the introduction of security tags on clothing over the past 12 months.

Many different retailers use tags on their apparel as an anti-theft measure, with store staff removing the devices once an item has been paid for.

However with Kmart introducing more self-serve registers, it means shoppers now have to remove the tags themselves.

Shoppers say this is leading to issues, as they’re often missed or forgotten during the self checkout process.

“I actually get really annoyed when this happens because we are forced to self checkout and sometimes they are hiding so well you don’t know they are on!” said one.

“My son has smashed them with a hammer after this happened to me and I was super s****y about having to drive 20 minutes back to the store! They came off.”

Another added: “That’s the problem when self scanning because no one takes these off. I was in a hurry and bought Lego the other day and it still had the security tag on it! So annoying!”

A third wrote: “This happened to me the other day. The person at the door who checks the bags on everyone’s exit actually has the remover thingy of these at the table with her!

“Obviously it happens all the time. You shouldn’t need to go all the way in the store in this case!”

One more responded: “Still don’t understand security tags when it’s all self serve and harassed at the door every time.”

Added another: “Such a pain to go back if you live far from your nearest store.”

Another Kmart fan gave advice on how to know if your clothing has a security tag on it while you’re scanning at the register.

“Did you use self checkout? If so, please notice that tagged items flash amber on screen and ask for approval,” one said.

In another social media post, another shopper revealed how she was about to take her pair of Kmart pants back to the store after spotting a security tag on them.

“I didn’t steal them, we just went through self serve and I didnt realise it was there,” she said in a recent video.

Luckily, however, the shopper – who uses the handle @smalldumpycat – said she soon realised the tag and been attached to the clothing label, meaning she could simply cut it off and save herself a trip back to Kmart.

“You’re lucky it was placed there. In retail we are supposed to put them half way a seam to make it difficult to remove,” one social media user said.
