Perhaps it was the similar sounding name, the knockoff branding or the onslaught of media attention to a Sinaloan burger restaurant called In-I-Nout. No matter the reason, the Sinaloan burger restaurant called In-I-Nout has now changed its name to Sofi’s Burger.

Sofi’s Burger, formerly known as In-I-Nout, is located in Culiacan, Mexico, and serves up food that looks eerily similar to the American fast-food chain In-N-Out. The pictures on the Instagram page show seedless-bun burgers with lettuce, tomato and raw onions and french fries smothered in a special sauce reminiscent of the California burger joint, but also shows pictures of chicken nuggets doused in different sauces, which In-N-Out does not serve.

A representative for In-N-Out declined to comment to SFGATE “due to ongoing litigation,” though it is unclear whether the franchise has taken legal action against the restaurant that is now Sofi’s Burger.

Because the owner of the Instagram account simply changed the handle to sofisburger_, the restaurant still has the more than 10,000 followers that it amassed during the media attention earlier this month. A video posted on its Instagram that shows off the similarities to In-N-Out is still posted on the restaurant’s page.

But the possibility of legal action hasn’t stopped imitators of the imitators. Another new knockoff restaurant has also popped up in Culiacan. “In Out Chesse Burgers” seems to have been created recently, as the restaurant’s first Instagram post was Aug. 10. Pictures of the food show french fries that look even more like In-N-Out’s famous animal-style fries than Sofi’s Burger; it even appears to be vending dupes of other fast food chains, using a picture of the Popeyes fried chicken sandwich on its Instagram page.

The Uber Eats page for In Out Chesse Burgers inexplicably lists the restaurant as serving Japanese food.

A representative for In-N-Out did not immediately respond to a request for comment on In Out Chesse Burgers.
