Laura Harrier on ’90s Supermodel Glam, European Summer, and Getting Good Sleep

Laura Harrier is someone who trusts her gut—and perhaps that’s what’s gotten her so far. The model and actress has leant her talents to numerous movie screens and campaigns to date, and is now the face of Hourglass’s new Vanish Airbrush Pressed Powder.

A longtime Hourglass fan herself, she says the partnership came together rather organically. Harrier tells me over Zoom she simply “slid in their DMs” to inquire about testing some newness from the brand. “It’s really cool to be genuinely representing something that I love and feel good promoting and know other people will love, too.”

Though Harrier’s glam may appear easy and effortless, she is very particular on what she likes. “I definitely go with my gut and with my eye,” she says. “I’m really specific, even though I’m not overdone.” When asked about what inspires her taste, she cites Sade, Diana Ross, and 90s supermodel as “can’t-go-wrong” timeless references.

Her go-to typically begins with the Hourglass Veil Hydrating Skin Tint. “I honestly just kind of rub it on with my fingers; I feel like it’s so sheer it really just melts into the skin,” she says. Followed by the acclaimed Vanish Airbrush Concealer—two shades, Flax and Maple, to suit different tones on her face. For color, she might do a blush or bronzer, and set everything with the pressed powder. “It’s great because you’re dewy but you’re not shiny,” she continues. “The oil is controlled but you’re not getting that old school super matte look.” Harrier’s tip: don’t go over your entire face with powder if you want to maintain some of your skin’s natural radiance.
