Licence for Private Agencies Providing Domestic Helps in Delhi Requires Mandatory Police Verification

To obtain a license for registration and operation as a placement agency providing domestic workers in Delhi, the proprietor or managing director must undergo police verification and upload the certificate on the e-district portal. During the registration process, the agency proprietors must also provide their PAN and bank account details. This new requirement aims to regulate and protect the domestic helps working in Delhi, particularly those coming from other states. It is estimated that there are more than 20,000 placement agencies and five lakh domestic workers in Delhi. Registering and obtaining a license without police verification is a violation of the Delhi Private Placement Agency (Regulation) Order 2014, which may result in a penalty of Rs 50,000 imposed by the Labour department. Household heads are urged to ensure that the agencies they engage with have obtained the necessary registration and license to prevent exploitation and curb child labor. Additionally, the agency proprietors must provide their PAN and bank account details during the registration process. The labor department has also sought support from the police commissioner for the verification process.
