Little girl left seriously injured in crash on way to Taylor Swift concert continues hospital recovery

A young girl left seriously injured in a crash on her way to Taylor Swift’s concert in Melbourne is continuing to recover in hospital but there aren’t any significant updates to her condition, a family friend says.

Freya Pokarier, 10, was on her way from Queensland to Melbourne last week to watch the singer when the SUV she was travelling in and a semi-trailer collided near Dubbo.

Her 16-year-old sister Mieka died at the scene.

Freya underwent brain surgery and was placed into a medically-induced coma.

A GoFundMe started by a family friend has raised more than $80,000 for the family.

According to an update shared to the page on Friday, there were no updates to share on Freya’s condition, more than a week after the crash.

“We don’t have any updates on our darling Freya’s condition for you,” Karleigh Fox wrote.

“We are just surrendering to this process of continued patience and working through all of the logistical work that comes with staying in a town that’s not our own, grieving for Mieka etc.

“The hospital have provided an incredible Chaplain and social workers to help us navigate our obstacles and feelings. The surgeons and nurses continue to offer second to none care to our girl and we have officially moved into Ronald McDonald House where they provide meals and beautiful quality accomodation and for that we are so grateful.”

She earlier said that Freya had undergone brain surger.

7NEWS understands Swift had been told about the crash.

Earlier, heartbroken friends of 16-year-old Mieka had begun wearing Taylor Swift themed friendship bracelets in a touching tribute.

The girls and their mother were on their way from the Gold Coast to see Taylor Swift in concert in Melbourne when tragedy struck on February 15.

Freya was sitting in the back of the car and was airlifted to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.

The family had shared that Freya is at risk of more swelling on the brain and infection, and that her condition is potentially life-threatening.

The girl’s mother was treated by paramedics before being taken to Dubbo Hospital with minor injuries.

The semi-trailer driver was taken to Dubbo Hospital in a stable condition.

Tributes have poured in for Mieka since the devastating crash.

One friend called her a “beacon of light” and a “life taken too soon”.

Mieka and Freya’s father said: “My family and what I live for. I’m devastated.”

Fox set up a GoFundMe page to help the family, saying they were on a dream trip.

“One of my dearest friends was driving from the Gold Coast to Melbourne with two of her children (my god children) when they were involved in a front-on collision with a semi-trailer,” Fox wrote.

“This was supposed to be a road trip of a lifetime with them going to concerts in both Melbourne and Sydney,” she added.

NSW Police are investigating the accident.

“A crime scene has been established and an investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident has commenced,” they said.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.

Anyone with any information has been urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
