(NewsNation) — Friends and family are increasingly concerned for living legend Liza Minnelli, sources tell me. Minnelli, 78, was photographed two weeks ago looking very frail in a wheelchair leaving a restaurant in West Hollywood — the first time in a year — but hasn’t made an official public appearance since the 2022 Academy Awards when she was wheeled on stage by Lady Gaga to present Best Picture nominees. During that appearance, she struggled over her words and fans were shocked at her decline.

Apparently, things haven’t gotten better.

Producers for the new “Cabaret” on Broadway starring Eddie Redmayne had hope Minnelli would make it to the April 11 performance in honor of Joel Gray’s 92nd birthday but, a source said, “She was too ill to come.”

Another source said, “People offered to fly her private, with a nurse and doctor, and basically do everything including having a litter of boys carry her to the theater but she couldn’t do it.”

Rick Miramontez, the publicist for “Cabaret”, told me: “Liza is forever connected to ‘Cabaret’. She was unable to join us at Joel Grey’s 92nd birthday last month, but we will welcome her to the Kit Kat Club with open arms the next time she is in New York.”

Friends are hoping that will be in June when the documentary on her life, “LIZA: A Truly Terrific Absolutely True Story” debuts at the Tribeca Film Festival.

Minnelli is expected (hoped) to be there and, on the same trip, will likely step back into the Kit Kat Club one more time.

Victoria Varela, Liza’s publicist poo poo’ed the rumors of her ill health and told me: “I was just with her last month to shoot a huge campaign and she was better than ever. She’s even recording again.”
