Digital Eclipse, the studio behind the superb Atari 50 collection, is back with another video game retrospective this week, as Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story comes to PlayStation, Xbox, PC and Nintendo Switch on March 13. Described as an interactive documentary, the Jeff Minter Story features 42 of the legendary developer’s most iconic games from eight different platforms. Much like the excellent Atari 50 collection from 2023, the games will be accompanied by interviews, artwork, advertising and various stories from Jeff Minter himself.

Games like Gridrunner, Revenge of the Mutant Camels and Tempest 2000 are all included in the package, alongside Matrix, Sheep In Space, Andes Attack, Laser Zone and Hellgate.

That’s on top of deep cuts such as Psychedelia and Colourspace, which come with new options and features optimised for controller-based play.

A must for video game enthusiasts, there’s even a version of Attack of the Mutant Camels for the unreleased Konix Multi-System console.

Digital Eclipse explains more: “In the British gaming universe of the 80s and 90s, nobody made games like Jeff Minter.

“Now, in a new interactive documentary from Digital Eclipse, you can play the history of one of the weirdest, wildest game developers to ever exist – a man who loved shooters and sheep, lasers and llamas.

“Journey back in time to an era of cassette tapes, photocopied zines, and README.TXT. An era in which a kid with a Commodore VIC-20 and dreams of radioactive sheep could become one of Britain’s best-known game makers.”

You can take a closer look at the games and documentary footage in the trailer below.

If you enjoyed Atari 50, then Llamasoft: The Jeff Minter Story is a fascinating follow-up featuring some really unique games.

While the titles aren’t as well known as many of the games from the Atari 50 collection, there are some real gems in the package.

Tempest 2000 and Gridrunner are the obvious highlights, although games like Sheep In Space, Andes Attack and Attack of the Mutant Camels are also well worth playing.

An updated version of Gridrunner is also available as a bonus game, complete with modern controls, upgraded visuals and sounds.
