Lok Sabha elections: Chirag Paswan gives up Jamui seat for his brother-in-law | India News

PATNA: Amid Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s continued attacks on the opposition over “Parivarvad” (dynastic politics), Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) president Chirag Paswan on Wednesday fielded his ‘Jijaji’ (brother-in-law) Arun Bharti from Jamui Lok Sabha seat that he currently holds.
This time, Chirag has announced to contest from his father late Ram Vilas Paswan’s home seat of Hajipur which his estranged uncle Pashupati Kumar Paras currently represents in the Lok Sabha.
Bharti’s candidature comes amid PM’s criticism of the Opposition over “dynastic politics”. Very strangely, at least five members of Paswan family have already walked into the Lok Sabha so far — late Paswan himself, his son Chirag, his brothers Pashupati Paras and late Ram Chandra Paswan, and his son Prince Raj.
Apparently paying no attention to the continuing debates over “Parivarvad”, Chirag on Wednesday declared Bharti as a candidate from Jamui seat and handed out party symbol to him. Bharti will file his nomination papers on Thursday which is the last day for filing the nominations. Jamui goes to polls in the first phase.
Shortly after giving him party symbol, Chirag held a meeting with NDA leaders in the constituency and urged the people to shower blessings on his Jijaji. “My Jijaji is new entrant to politics, but I assure you he will prove himself worthy of you all, I am confident you will shower blessings on him the way you showed your affection towards me,” Chirag who has been representing this seat for the two consecutive terms told a public meeting on Wednesday.
At the same time, he admitted about not paying full attention to his constituency since he remained stuck in issues concerning his family and the party.
Bharti profusely thanked Chirag for handing over his Jamui seat and claimed to significantly contribute towards achieving the NDA’s target of winning 400 seats. “I express my gratitude to the party and the National President for reposing their confidence in me. I will follow the footprints of Papa ji and under the leadership of Chirag ji, I will contribute to make the NDA win 400 seats,” Bharti posted on X.
As per the NDA’s seat sharing arrangement, Chirag’s party has been given five seats to contest—Vaishali, Hajipur, Samastipur, Khagaria and Jamui. Now with Paras who heads the Rashtriya Lok Janshakti Party (RLJP) rebelling against Chirag, this looks really challenging for the latter to retain those seats.
