Luke Davies remembered by friends and family as accused killer cop fronts court

A police officer accused of murdering a Sydney couple is due to appear in court as family and friends of the duo mourn the much-loved pair.

Luke Davies and his partner Jessie Baird were allegedly murdered in Sydney’s east when Beaumont Lamarre-Condon shot them with his service weapon while off-duty in February.

The crime was allegedly committed in Baird’s home in inner-city Paddington.

The 28-year-old senior constable was sacked from the NSW Police Force after being arrested and charged with both men’s murders.

He remains in custody.

Lawyers for Lamarre-Condon are due to appear before Sydney’s Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday, when a magistrate will take steps to further progress the criminal case.

The court date comes after Davies was remembered at a memorial service in Brisbane on Sunday. Baird was farewelled at a funeral in Melbourne in March.

Mourners dressed in white gathered at the park’s rotunda as two large screens displayed photos and videos of Davies throughout his life.

Images and videos showed him overseas in the snow on his days off from being an international flight attendant, waving to the camera as a child, and more recently, enjoying his new life in Sydney.

“I shatter every day knowing I won’t see you again, and then every day my pieces pull themselves back together knowing I have the day to tell the world about you,” Davies’ friend Jess said in a tribute.

It was the common theme on Saturday as family, friends, co-workers and former teachers spoke highly of a man who made a lasting impact on everyone in his life.

Davies’ former year six teacher Stuart Crichton said he would be remembered not for the way he left the world but for the impact he had on it.

“The way he embraced life and the way that he loved those he held close,” Crichton said.

“Rest in peace, Luke.

“Your light will never be extinguished.”

Police allege Lamarre-Condon’s February 19 attack was premeditated after a months-long campaign of “predatory behaviour” targeting Baird, who the officer briefly dated.

The couple’s bodies were not located until February 27, when they were found inside surfboard bags at the fence line of a rural property in Bungonia near Goulburn, about 200km southwest of Sydney.

Lamarre-Condon joined the force in 2019 and previously ran a celebrity blog, posing with dozens of A-listers including Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Katy Perry, Miley Cyrus and Harry Styles.
