Majestic Yashasvi Jaiswal fires second successive double ton to join elite list | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Phenomenal Yashasvi Jaiswal beat England bowlers to submission as the India opener notched up his second successive double century on Day 4 of the third Test in Rajkot on Sunday.
Going hammer and tongs against the England bowlers, dazzling Jaiswal hammered his second double ton of the series — scored 209 in Visakhapatnam in the second Test.
After raising his ton (104) in the final session on Saturday, Jaiswal had to retire hurt but the 22-year-old returned on Sunday and resumed his innings after India lost their first wicket of the day in the form of Shubman Gill (91).
Taking England bowlers to the sword, Jaiswal raised his double hundred off 231 balls that came at a strike rate of 86.58.
As Jaiswal cracked 14 fours and 12 sixes in his blistering knock, the opener also became the first Indian batter to smash 10 sixes in an innings of a Test match.
With an easy single off a Joe Root delivery, Jaiswal got to his double ton and leapt in joy as the Indian dressing room and the fans in the stands applauded his stupendous knock.
With the heroic effort, Jaiswal became only the third Indian batter to score double hundred in successive Tests after Vinod Kambli and Virat Kohli.
Jaiswal is now also the sixth Indian after MAK Pataudi (203*), Dilip Sardesai (200*), Sunil Gavaskar (220 and 221), VVS Laxman (281) and Wasim Jaffer (212) to score a double hundred in second innings for India in the traditional format.
Jaiswal finished on an unbeaten 214 as India declared their second innings at 430 for 4, setting England a target of 557 in the second session on the penultimate day.
Jaiswal is playing his seventh match and 12th innings in a career that began last year with a debut knock of 171 in the West Indies.
