Police are looking for a man accused of decapitating a woman and taking the head with him. Officials said the man has relatives in the San Joaquin Valley area.

The Santa Rosa Police Department said there is a warrant out for 24-year-old Luis Gustavo Aroyo-Lopez of Santa Rosa. He is a relative of the woman killed, but the department did not specify how they are related.

Officers, around 3:40 p.m. on Nov. 2, went to the 2500 block of Pomo Trail off of West Steele and Coffey lanes for a report of a possible homicide, the department said. Inside a home, they found a woman without a head that was not in the house.

Detectives began interviewing people and identified Aroyo-Lopez as the person believed to be responsible for the murder, the department said. It is also believed that he took the head with him and may still have it with him.

Aroyo-Lopez was recently released from state prison and on parole after serving time for an assault with a deadly weapon, the department said. He is described as 5 feet, 6 inches tall, weighing about 150 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes. He has a large “420” tattoo and a marijuana leaf on the left side of his head.

The police department said he was last seen wearing a long-sleeve black hooded sweatshirt or jacket, black pants and white shoes. He is believed to have walked south on Iroquois Street after leaving the home of the woman killed.

While the police department said it does not know where Aroyo-Lopez is heading, he has relatives in the San Joaquin Valley area, but detectives are unsure if that is where he is headed. Details were not released on what part of the valley, which includes about eight counties.
