Man sought by police after officer allegedly assaulted during protest

Police are searching for a man after protesters clashed with officers on Saturday in the Regent Park area.

Toronto Police said officers were attending a demonstration on Saturday at 5:20 p.m. in the Gerrard St. E.-Parliament St. area, where a pro-Palestinian protest had already led to multiple arrests and at least two charges that day.

Police said that a man attending the demonstration allegedly assaulted an officer before fleeing the area.

The man is believed to be 25 to 35 years old and is clean-shaven. He was wearing a grey T-shirt, blue button-up shirt, black zip-up sweater, black jacket, black pants and white Adidas shoes.

The chaotic scene on Saturday led to both praise and criticism of Toronto Police officers. During the protest, one woman allegedly threw horse manure at officers, while another was accused of using a flagpole “to spear at an officer,” according to police.

Assia Rami, 24, and Celeste Xiaoying Furlotte-Bois, 27, of Toronto, were each charged with assaulting a peace officer with a weapon.

A driver was also charged with stunt driving under the Highway Safety Act for allegedly operating a truck with occupants in the bed of the moving vehicle.
