The cameras stopped rolling during a shoot for Law & Order: Special Victims Unit after a lost child mistook one of the show’s stars for a real-life cop.

Actress Mariska Hargitay, who plays Captain Olivia Benson in the series, was approached by a young girl on April 10 who mistook her police badge for the real deal.

The shoot on April 10 was momentarily interrupted as the child sought help.

She was separated from her mother while on a walk in Fort Tryon Park, New York, a source told People.

Hargitay spent 20 minutes trying to assist the young girl who appeared unaware of the film crew and other actors around her, the outlet reported.

The actress was soon able to reunite the girl with her mum.

Hargitay has been portraying Benson since 1999 when the Law & Order spinoff first aired, before it went on to become the longest-running prime-time drama on US TV.

The actress is a mother to three children with husband Peter Hermann, August, 17, Amaya, 12, and Andrew, 12.

Hargitay and Hermann adopted Amaya in 2019.

“Having lost my mom at a young age, I then grew up with my stepmom, and I have half-siblings, and so I know that families can be built in all sorts of different ways, that there isn’t just one way to create a family and that it isn’t just about biology,” she told People at the time.

They welcomed Andrew six months after Amaya joined the family.

Law & Order: SVU kicked off its 25th season in January.
