Maruti Suzuki WagonR, Swift lead car thefts in Delhi: Check most theft-prone areas in the capital

Amidst a notable surge in vehicle sales across India, the national capital remains at the forefront, with Delhi leading the pack. Despite a significant decrease in Delhi’s overall share of thefts (37 percent in 2023 as against 56 percent in 2022) compared to other cities, the capital retains its top ranking in terms of the number of theft incidents reported.
Vehicle thefts: Favourite models for the thieves
As per a recent report from Acko, nearly half of these thefts involve cars manufactured by Maruti Suzuki, accounting for about 47 percent of all stolen vehicles. Alarmingly, an average of 105 vehicle theft cases were reported daily in 2023, translating to one vehicle stolen every 14 minutes in the national capital region.

Moreover, the report sheds light on the preferred targets of thieves, with popular hatchbacks such as the WagonR and Swift topping the list of most stolen cars in Delhi NCR. Other models including the Hyundai Creta, Grand i10, and Maruti Dzire were also on the list.
In the two-wheeler category, the Hero Splendor emerged as the most targeted model, closely followed by Honda Activa and Royal Enfield Classic 350.

Speaking of the specifics of New Delhi’s vehicle theft landscape, the report identifies persistent hotspots like Bhajanpura and Uttam Nagar, alongside new areas such as Shahdara, Patparganj, and Badarpur that have emerged as most vehicle theft-prone areas in the capital.
