Meghan Markle’s First Red Carpet of the Year Is a Return to Form

These days, public appearances from Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, are rare—but when she does step out, her outfits impress. Last year saw her embracing TikTok’s “latté dressing” trend in shades of brown, and making a sophisticated return to the red carpet at Variety’s Power of Women gala in Los Angeles wearing a Proenza Schouler dress. For her first formal outing of 2024, Meghan chose a look befitting royalty.

With her husband Prince Harry, the Duchess attended the premiere of Bob Marley: One Love in Jamaica wearing a princess-worthy all-black ensemble: a fitted black bodice with delicate camisole straps, and a floor-length skirt. The skirt, with its dramatic train, is likely to be Carolina Herrera—one of the Duchess’s preferred luxury labels. Meghan’s look was perfectly topped off with a pair of black pumps, a black leather clutch bag, and gold statement earrings.

While living in London, Meghan frequently turned to bold color—as with her green Emilia Wickstead caped dress chosen for her final outing as a senior working royal, or the vivid blue Victoria Beckham dress she wore for the 2020 Endeavour Fund Awards. Last night’s outing in Jamaica, though, was proof that black never fails to make an impact.
