MG Comet EV launched with fast charging: Gets two new variants, prices start at Rs 8.24 lakh

MG Motor India has announced the launch of the MG Comet EV with a fast charging option. The variants for the EV have been rejigged and the company has also introduced new features for two new variants. Prices for the Comet EV now start from Rs 6.99 lakh and go up to Rs 9.14 lakh (both prices Ex-showroom).
Previously, the Comet EV was available in three variants – Pace, Play and Plush. These three variants are now replaced with Executive, Excite and Exclusive, respectively. The Excite and Exclusive will now be available with the fast-charging option. The Exclusive variant is Rs 20,000 more expensive than the Plush trim and the prices of the Executive and Excite (previously known as Pace and Play) remain unchanged.
The base Executive trim is priced at Rs 6.99 lakh, mid-exite is priced at Rs 7.88 lakh and 8.24 lakh for fast charging. Top-of-the-line Exclusive is priced at Rs 8.78 lakh and 9.14 lakh for fast charging (all prices ex-showroom). Talking about the fast charging, the FC variants of the Comet get a 7.4 kW AC charger and the company has not yet revealed the charging time. Previously, the Comet used to get only a 3.3 kW AC charger which took around 7 hours to completely charge from 0-100 per cent.
The Excite and Exclusive fast charging trims now also get additional features such as rear disc brakes, an electronic parking brake, ESC, power foldable ORVMs, turn indicator integrated DRLs and creep mode. Other features include twin 10.25-inch screens for infotainment and instrument cluster, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, steering-mounted controls, three USB ports and connected car tech. In terms of safety, it gets ABS, EBD, a tyre pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a reverse camera with sensors and dual front airbags.
Talking about the battery and powertrain, the Comet is powered by a 17.3 kWh battery pack paired with a single electric motor which puts out 42hp of power and 110Nm of torque. The battery is IP67-rated for water and dust resistance and gets an ARAI-certified range of 230km.
