MKR grand finalist Christian has revealed a surprising act by judges Colin Fassnidge and Manu Feildel – after the cameras stopped rolling.

The Melbourne hospitality worker has told 7Life he was “really caught off guard” by one thing that the judges did for him and his teammate, Nick, behind the scenes.

Christian and Nick will take on NSW twins Radha and Prabha in the grand final on Tuesday night, the culmination of a tense, weeks-long competition.

The Victorian friends said Manu and Colin got them through some very tough times they were experiencing, off camera, during the contest.

And it was one particular moment that they will cherish, which TV viewers did not see.

“The thing that really caught me off guard about them is how much they care about you,” Christian told 7Life.

“You know, Nick and I were struggling a bit with self-belief throughout – but especially the second round of Instant Restaurants.

“And Manu had a moment in the kitchen where he kind of just stopped what we were doing, put an arm around us and just looked at us and went, ‘You two need to start believing in yourselves. Because we believe in you, you should believe in yourselves.’

“Then he just walked out of the kitchen.

“And we were like, ‘OK, that happened.’ We better cook before we start crying.

“It made those harder moments a little more bearable.”

After they were told they were through to the final round, Manu told Christian that he had lived up to his promise to stay in the competition until the end.

“Christian, you said you weren’t going home, didn’t you?” Manu said.

Nick then said: “We’re not going to let this opportunity go to waste.”

Christian and Nick beat Sonia and Marcus to join Radha and Prabha in the grand final – but they said it was a bittersweet moment.

The pair counted the Adelaide mother-and-son team as two of their closest friends in the competition, revealing that they still spoke to them regularly.

When they were told that they had made it through to the final round, Christian was clearly emotional as he hugged Sonia.

“Sonia and Marcus – we speak to them a couple of times a week,” Christian said.

“Nick had his TV mum in Claudean and I had mine in Sonia.”
