Former Hollywood actor-couple, Amber Heard and Johnny Depp were married for 15 months. However, their’s was one of the most messy divorces which gained a lot of public attention. In 2016, Amber Heard filed for a divorce from Johnny Depp for which she was awarded $7 million as divorce settlement– she donated this money to charity.
But their divorce wasn’t easy, as both Heard and Depp accused each other of domestic abuse. The ex-couple spent a major part of 2020 and 2021 battling in court for a case against The Sun newspaper which called Depp a “wife-beater.” Johnny Depp lost the case and appealed.
In 2022, Heard and Depp came back to court– this time for a defamation case Depp filed against Heard for an op-ed pieve she wrote in the Washington Post in 2018 wherein she wrote about him and the domestic abuse she felt, without naming him. In June, a jury concluded that Heard did defame Depp for which Heard was asked to pay him $15 million for damages, which was later reduced to $10.35 million. Heard then had filed a countersuit, wherein she won one out of three defamation cases for which she was given $2 million. While both Heard and Depp appealed again, in Decemvber 2022 Heard shared that she had settled the matters with her ex-husband Depp. Eventually, Heard had to pay him $1 million which Depp donated to charity.
