Nationwide Recall: Stanley Black & Decker DeWalt and FATMAX Fibreglass Sledgehammers sold at Bunnings and Mitre 10

A tool sold at Bunnings Warehouse and several other hardware retailers nationwide has been urgently recalled over fears it could injure customers.

Stanley Black & Decker is recalling the DeWalt fibreglass sledgehammers and Stanley FATMAX fibreglass sledgehammers over defects that could cause the head of the sledgehammer to come loose.

The head on the fibreglass sledgehammers may loosen prematurely and detach unexpectedly during use, posing a serious risk of injury to the user or those around them, the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission warned.

“Consumers should immediately cease using the product,” it said.

The tools were sold nationally and internationally online between August 4, 2014 and May 30, 2023 at a range of stores including Bunnings, Mitre 10, Blackwoods and Sydney Tools.

Affected model numbers of the DeWalt short-handled fibreglass sledgehammers include DWHT56024, DWHT56025, DWHT56026, DWHT56027, DWHT56029, DWHT56030, DWHT56141, DWHT56142, DWHT56147, DWHT56148.

The Stanley FATMAX long-handled fibreglass sledgehammers models FMHT56006, FMHT56008, FMHT56009, FMHT56010, FMHT56011, FMHT56019 are also impacted.
