Henry Cavill turns 41 today and the British actor doesn’t just keep getting more handsome, his personal and professional lives have also recently brought him bountiful gifts.

After keeping his love life low key for many years, Cavill and his girlfriend Natalie Viscuso officially confirmed their relationship in April 2021 and recently announced they are expecting their first child together.

The actor said: “I’m very excited about it. Natalie and I are both very excited about it. I’m sure you’ll see much more of that.”

His dazzling Hollywood career had appeared to falter a little when he discovered Zac Snyder would not be bringing him back as Superman within weeks of also quitting his pet project The Witcher. But the heartthrob has made no secret of his dream to play James Bond.

Cavill is currently in high demand with two recent movies, Matthew Vaughan’s Argyll and Guy Ritchie’s The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare and the latter director already has him lined up for another action flick, In The Grey, next year alongside Jake Gyllenhaal and Eiza Gonzalez.

He may have left Netflix’s The Witcher under contentious circumstances but the self-confessed fantasy and gaming “geek” has already lined up another major franchise, Warhammer 40,000 with Amazon.

And after the role of James Bond seemingly slipping away to Aaron Taylor-Johnson it seems that Cavill is back in contention.

Cavill had led the odds with UK bookies for much of the past three years but ity had been feared that he might be ageing out of the race with well-publicised reports that the producers were looking for a younger fresh take on Bond this time around.

However, Coral’s John Hill told The Express today: “The latest movement in our betting suggests it is not a done deal just yet, as we have seen plenty of interest in Henry Cavill, forcing us to slash his odds in half for the iconic role.”

Cavill has roared to 5/2, still behind Taylor-Johnson on 1/2 but closing fast. And there is another shock change as Taron Egerton also sees his odds halved and leaps into third place on 3/1, shooting past Theo James on 4/1 and former frontrunner James Norton on 5/1.

And there was similarly encouraging new from other major bookies.

Alex Apati at Ladbrokes told the Express that the actor was looking good at 4/1: “Last month’s news suggested Bond chiefs had found their man, but with things going quiet on the Aaron Taylor-Johnson front, we’re not yet ruling out a former favourite getting the gig, in the shape of Henry Cavill.”

Unlike many stars who have been rather coy about any desire to take the coveted role, Cavill has never hidden his hope, previously saying: “I would love to play Bond, it would be very, very exciting.”

Asked last month, he took a leaf out of former Bond Roger Moore’s infamous dry wit and raised eyebrow when he said: “Maybe I’m too old now, maybe I’m not. We’ll see. It’s up to (Bond producers) Barbara Broccoli and Mike Wilson, and we’ll see what their plans are.”

Aware his rugged real-life role in The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare inspired Bond creator Ian Fleming, Cavill teased: “It seems like a good first step, right?”
