Happy birthday, Selena Gomez! The actor, musician and Rare Beauty founder rang in her 31st birthday in a hairstyle we’ve rarely (if ever) seen her wear: a full-on updo!
Gomez celebrated her big day in true Leo fashion with a big party with all her nearest and dearest, including the Beckhams (Nicola and Brooklyn) and Paris Hilton. Instead of opting for one of her go-to event hairstyles, like long waves or a slicked-back braid or bun, Gomez pulled her hair up into a Y2K-inspired upstyle with lots of curls and a swoopy side bang that fell over one eye.
Luckily for us, the star gave us plenty of detail shots via her Instagram party pics so we could see the full 360 of said updo. Hairstylist Marissa Marino parted Gomez’s dark brunette hair deeply to one side, then twisted it, pulled it up and pinned it at the back of her head. The loose lengths were then curled into ringlets right at the top of her head; it almost looks like she styled her hair with a claw clip, but much more glam. Gomez frequently wears her hair back, but an updo isn’t typically part of her styling routine; however, judging from these cute snapshots, it should be! When paired with her strapless red minidress and ankle strap heels, Gomez could have stepped right out of 2003 or 2023, and I’m having fun just looking at her!
