Pilot, dog escape plane that hit the water and sank off California coast

A pilot and a dog escaped with minor injuries after a small plane landed or crashed in the waters off the coast of Rancho Palos Verdes on Sunday, April 14, with crews later working to recover the sunken aircraft.

Around 5 p.m., 911 callers reported that a single-engine Piper Cherokee Six went in the ocean about 100 yards off the coast of the Trump National Golf Club, located at 1 Trump National Drive, said Los Angeles County Fire Supervisor Bernard Peters. The pilot and the dog were able to get out of the aircraft and swim to shore.

The pilot and dog were treated at the scene for minor injuries, Peters said.
