Prime Minister Narendra Modi Saturday interacted with top Indian gamers and urged them to focus on games which tackle critical environmental issues such as global warming and climate which the world is facing today.

During the roundtable with young Indian gamers like Animesh Agarwal, Mithilesh Patankar, Payal Dhare, Naman Mathur and Anshu Bisht, Modi stressed that Indian developers must build games which address global issues like climate change and cleanliness, among others, while innovating for the world.

“World leaders talk about global warming and climate change and are trying various methods to deal with those. I have laid out an alternative method called ‘Mission Life: Lifestyle for Environment’,” the Prime Minister Modi told the gamers.

“Now, envision a game aimed at addressing the global climate crisis, where the gamer must explore various methods and solutions to identify the most sustainable approach. What are these steps? Who do we navigate through and find the best possible approach?” PM Modi noted.

“Similarly, a game could revolve around cleanliness, and every child in the country should play such games and understand the true significance of gaming. Create games for change which will not only solve local problems but also address global issues,” Modi asked the gamers.

‘Gaming must remain free to flourish’

Responding to a query by the gamers if a regulatory body should be formed for gaming, the Prime Minister noted that Esports, especially skill-based gaming, do not require any regulation and must remain free to flourish under an organised and legal structure, thus creating more avenues for the youth while delivering world-class innovations in the sector.

“Regulation won’t help for the esports industry which can create multiple career options for our youth. It must grow under an organised, legal structure. The time is to understand the world of gaming, and mould it to our country’s needs”, Modi said.

“I want to uplift the nation to a level that by 2047, the middle class does not require any unnecessary government intervention,” he added.

The creators hailed PM Modi’s vision of recognising creativity in skill-based gaming, which is a definitive boost for them. They said that it is time to take gaming ahead and inspire others.

“Gaming started only a few years ago and is now a viable career option for some of us. The perception has changed towards gaming,” the gaming creators told PM Modi.
