Lottery officials say they’re expecting a massive demand for tickets, with up to half of Australian adults expected to have entered.

“This is the biggest jackpot offered by any Australian lottery game in more than six months, and we anticipate a busy period both in-store and online leading up to the final minutes before the draw closes,” The Lott spokesperson Anna Hobdell said on Thursday.

“We haven’t seen a $100 million Powerball draw since August 2023.

“On that occasion, the jackpot was shared between a 10-member Sydney syndicate and a Melbourne mum who each scored $50 million.”

Hobdell said the peak of sales in that draw occurred with less than an hour until entries closed.

More than 8000 tickets were sold in a single minute.

Behind the scenes

But have you ever wondered how long it takes to receive your millions after winning the top prize?

Will you have to wait months for your $100 million and just how will all that cash land in your account?

The Lott has confirmed that winners will receive their millions 14 days after scooping the jackpot.

That’s two weeks to plan exactly how you’ll spend your winnings, before it is deposited into your account.

The Lott says four things will happen for registered users if they score the winning numbers in Powerball.

What happens if you win Division One?

  1. A representative from The Lott will call you immediately with the good news using the contact number listed in your account.
  2. The Lott will send a letter to confirm your Division One Powerball win — as well as some “congratulatory goodies” to celebrate your win.
  3. The Lott says you’ll then have to wait two weeks to receive your winnings. “You’ll have a two-week provisional period to plan what you’re going to do with your life-changing prize,” The Lott says.
  4. The prize will then be paid into your online account so you can then withdraw the millions to a bank account of your choice.
