The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said up to half of Australian adults were expected to have an entry into the draw.

“While Australian lotteries have been operating for more than a century, there have only been five draws that have offered a jackpot of $150 million or more,” he said.

“If just one person takes home this $150 million prize on Thursday night, they’ll make history by becoming the nation’s biggest-ever individual lottery winner.

“In 2019, a Sydney nurse became Australia’s current biggest individual lottery winner when she won more than $107 million.”

It comes after new data released by The Lott revealed that the initials M, J, S, D, G, and K were the most common among all division one lottery winners in 2023.

Specifically, it was revealed that:

  • People with the initials of M, J, S, D and G claimed almost half of the division one wins in 2023 (46.58 per cent)
  • People with the initials of S, K, J, D and M took home almost two-thirds of individual division one prize money in 2023 (61.16 per cent)

In contrast, the initials least frequently winning division one were U, X, Z, Y and W.

The Lott says there have been no division one winners in 2023 with the initials of U, X or Z, and only one winner with the initials of Y and Q.

In terms of horoscopes, Librans won more division one prize winnings than any other star sign, followed by Virgo and Cancer. Scorpio and Taurus were the unluckiest of the horoscope signs.

The Lott spokesperson Matt Hart said the data was good news for anyone with a lucky initial – like he has.

“It’s really interesting to see such a concentration of wins among people with such a select group of initials. Not sure if that is proportionate to the initials of the broader population,” he said.

“For the Zorans and Ursulas of the world, never fear. If you’ve got a ticket in your hand for tonight’s draw, you’re still in with a chance to win.

“Naturally, I take great false confidence that people with the initial M who are Librans, like me, won the most division one prizes last year. Could I be calling myself tonight? Probably not, but it’s nice to dream.”
