Prince William’s Sweet Kate Middleton Comment Goes Viral

Prince William’s sweet comment about meeting wife Kate during his college days in Scotland has gone viral as the couple’s early romance has recently featured as a main storyline in the final season of Netflix’s The Crown.

William and Kate both met in 2001 when they were studying history of art at St Andrew’s University on Scotland’s east coast. After becoming friends, the couple developed a romantic relationship, dating for a number of years before announcing their engagement in 2010, finally marrying at Westminster Abbey in 2011.

Since their marriage, the royal couple have rarely discussed their relationship or one another in public, with fans eagerly sharing any comments or public displays of affection on social media.

One rare occasion where William referenced his relationship with Kate in a public forum took place in 2021, when the prince was given by his grandmother, Queen Elizabeth II, the task of being Lord High Commissioner of the General Assembly of the Church of Scotland.

In this role, William made a speech at the assembly, in which he not only spoke of his love for Scotland, but also the role it played in bringing him and Kate together.

Uploaded to TikTok by user l0velycatherine, edited clips from the prince’s opening address have gone viral, gaining over 700,000 views on the platform.

William opened by describing how Scotland had been the setting for some of his life’s biggest events, including the tragic death of his mother, Princess Diana, which occurred in 1997 while he was staying with his father and grandmother at Balmoral Castle.

“Scotland is the source of some of my happiest memoires,” he said. “But also my saddest. I was in Balmoral when I was told that my mother had died.”

Not seen in the TikTok clip, he continued in his speech to add: “Still in shock, I found sanctuary in the service at Crathie Kirk [church] that very morning. And in the dark days of grief that followed, I found comfort and solace in the Scottish outdoors. As a result, the connection I feel to Scotland will forever run deep.”

The prince then went on to make a sweet comment about wife, Kate, with the TikTok clip highlighting his words: “And yet alongside this painful memory, is one of great joy. Because it was here in Scotland—20 years ago this year—that I first met Catherine. Needless to say, the town where you meet your future wife holds a very special place in your heart.”

The video then includes photographs of the couple in their university days played under Lana Del Rey’s 2023 song, “Let The Light In.”

Captioned “his smile when he mentioned catherine,” the video has received in excess of 137,000 likes and over 170 comments, many of which have praised the royals.

“I feel like Diana sent her to him,” wrote one user.

“OMG he’s so sweet,” posted another, with a further user adding: “So glad that William has found happiness with Kate and their children.”

In 2023, the couple celebrated their 12th wedding anniversary and also their first full year in their new elevated royal roles as Prince and Princess of Wales which were given to them after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

Speaking about his son and daughter-in-law in his first address to the nation as monarch in September 2022, King Charles III said: “With Catherine beside him, our new Prince and Princess of Wales will, I know, continue to inspire and lead our national conversations, helping to bring the marginal to the center ground where vital help can be given.”
