As rumours continue to swirl about the “fairytale” romance between royals Prince Christian and Princess Chiara, the Italian princess has taken control of the narrative.
Princess Maria Chiara of Bourbon Two Sicilies denied that she was dating her “close” friend Christian, the oldest son of Princess Mary and second in line for the Danish throne.
Taking to her Instagram account, the 18-year-old “set the records straight”.

“Prince Christian and I share a close friendship,” she wrote.
“However, some inaccurate information has been disseminated.
“At first, this situation made me smile; however, over time, this rumour has exceeded the limits of common sense and has spiralled, becoming at odds with reality.”
“I believe it is now time to put an end to this rumour,” she continued.
“When important events will occur in my life, I will be happy to share them with you.
“While we all enjoy dreaming of fairy tales, what truly matters is reality.”
Comments were turned off for the post, which was shared in English, Italian and French.
The two royals have known each other since they were children, with their families being close.
Maria Chiara is the daughter of Princess Camilla and Prince Carlo, the claimant to the headship of the former House of Bourbon-Two Sicilies.
Carlo is the godfather of Christian’s younger sister Princess Josephine, 11.
Chiara’s post came after Woman’s Day claimed “an engagement announcement is on the horizon” for the two royals.
The rumour was that she met with Denmark’s Queen Margrethe and she made “a good impression”.
“Christian knew they’d hit it off and was thrilled that she invited them to tea,” the source told the publication.
“It’s an informal stamp of approval for Chiara because Margrethe doesn’t take tea with just anyone.
“There’s no doubt an engagement announcement is on the horizon and the palace is preparing accordingly.”
Unlike Chiara, neither Christian or the Danish royal family has yet to address the rumour.
Christian is second in life for the throne, behind his father and Princess Mary’s husband, Crown Prince Frederik.
The 17-year-old was first spotted with the Italian princess on a day out with friends at the Monaco Grand Prix in May.
Pictures emerged on social media of the couple looking close, besides Maria Chiara’s older sister, Princess Carolina, 19, who was seen in the picture wearing a silver tailored suit.
Maria Chiara was pictured at the far right, wearing blue and standing close to Christian, who was in a beige suit.
