Product Safety Australia recalls Casio calculator over button battery fears: ‘Stop using immediately’

A popular school item has been recalled over safety concerns for young children.

Casio’s electronic calculator Model HL-820VA has been recalled due to the product not complying with the mandatory standards for products containing button batteries, also known as coin batteries.

Product Safety Australia said in its recall notice the button batteries used were not adequately secured and are accessible to young children.

“There is a risk of choking or serious injury if young children gain access to the button/coin batteries and swallow or place them inside their body,” the recall said.

“Consumers should stop using affected products immediately and store them out of reach of children.”

Anyone who has bought one of these calculators from Officeworks, Campion, Abacus Calculators, GNS Wholesale Stationers or Dynamic Suppliescan between 22 Jun 2022 and 23 Jan 2024 can return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
