One of the biggest games of the past decade is currently available for free on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. CD Projekt is giving gaming fans the chance to play Cyberpunk 2077 free of charge during the Easter weekend. If you’ve ever been tempted to try Cyberpunk 2077 but were put off by its disastrous launch, then the free trial is the perfect opportunity to see how much the game has changed for the better in the three plus years since launch. There are, of course, one or two caveats that are worth noting before you get started. Firstly, the free trial is only available from now until 8am BST UK time on April 1, so you’ll need to act fast if you want to check it out.

Speaking of time limits, fans will only be able to play the game for five hours during the trial period, which means you won’t be able to see the end credits without paying for the full version.

Sadly, Cyberpunk 2077’s superb Phantom Liberty expansion is also off limits during the trial period.

On the plus side, any progress you make during the trial period will carry over to the full release, so you won’t have to start from the beginning if you buy the game.

Even better news is that you don’t need to subscribe to PS Plus or Xbox Game Pass in order to access the trial.

In the frequently asked questions section of the game’s website, CD Projekt confirms that you’ll need around 100GB of free space to install the trial on your console.

Likewise, the FAQ also confirms that the free trial period won’t be extended to PC due to “technical reasons”.

If you want to continue playing beyond the trial period, then PS5 users will be pleased to find out that the Cyberpunk 2077 Ultimate Edition is currently available at a discounted price on the PlayStation Store.

Containing the core game and Phantom Liberty expansion, the Ultimate Edition is reduced to just £43.49 as part of the PlayStation Spring Sale.

The deal runs until April 10, giving fans a couple of weeks to make their mind up about any potential purchase.

Sadly there’s no such discount available on Xbox consoles, although Microsoft is likely to hold another seasonal sale soon.
