Punch EV Vs Citroen EC3: Tata Punch EV vs Citroen eC3 comparison: Specs, range, features, price, and more

As the competition in the growing electric passenger vehicle market heats up, Tata Motors, one of the pioneers in the segment, will aim to further its dominance with the launch of the Punch EV. The model, a direct rival to the Citroen eC3, made its debut last week, thereby becoming the smallest electric SUV in the Indian market. Here, let’s quickly take a look at how these two rivals stack up against each other.
Tata Punch EV vs Citroen eC3 design:
Both cars come as electrified counterparts of existing ICE models but in the design department, the Punch EV comes with significant upgrades over its ICE sibling. On the other hand, the eC3 remains identical to Citroen C3, barring the ‘EV’ badge and green number plate it gets to distinguish between the two.
Punch EV, on the other hand, gets a refreshed design, featuring a LED light bar inspired by Nexon, running across the bonnet’s width. It also comes with a refreshed bumper and grille design, split LED headlights, a silver faux skid plate, and a front charger under the brand logo – a first for Tata’s electric cars. At the rear, it sports tail lights similar to the ICE version with Y-shaped brake lights, a roof spoiler, and a uniquely redesigned bumper.
Tata Punch EV vs Citroen eC3 features:
In terms of interiors and features, the Punch EV outshines the Citroen eC3, which offers limited features like a 10.2-inch touchscreen display with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Comparatively, the Punch EV boasts of features such as ventilated seats, a new steering wheel from Nexon with an illuminated logo, an optional sunroof for an additional Rs 50,000, auto headlights, auto wipers, projector LED headlights, TPMS, an air purifier, full-width LED DRLs like Nexon, a 360-degree camera with blindspot monitoring, a fully configurable TFT instrument screen, among other features.

Tata Punch EV vs Citroen eC3 battery and range:
Both cars offer decent range, with the Punch EV claiming up to 315 km with its smaller 25 kWh battery option, compared to the eC3’s 327 km range. However, real-world usage might see these figures drop slightly. The Punch EV gets two variants – standard range and long range (421 km). On the other hand, the eC3 is offered in a single variant.
Although the eC3 boasts a slightly higher range due to a larger battery pack size, the Punch EV’s base powertrain (82 hp, 114 Nm) is more potent than that of the Citroen eC3’s 57 hp and 143 Nm. Although, in terms of torque, the latter clearly gets an upper hand.
Tata Punch EV vs Citroen eC3: Price and Verdict
The Punch EV starts at Rs 10.99 lakh, ex-showroom, significantly undercutting the eC3’s Rs 11.61 lakh base price. Higher variants of the Punch EV are pricier, though, reaching up to Rs 15.49 lakh compared to the eC3’s top-end variant at Rs 12.50 lakh. Both prices are ex-showroom.
So, who wins?
The Punch EV offers superior performance in most departments, more features, and a competitive starting price. However, the eC3 boasts slightly better range and a funky design that might appeal to some, especially the youth for its vibrant appeal. Ultimately, the choice comes down to individual priorities and budget.
