PV Sindhu Unveils Muhammad Hafiz Hashim as Her New Coach

🎉PV Sindhu has exciting news to share! She announced on Tuesday that former Malaysian shuttler Muhammad Hafiz Hashim will be her new coach. Sindhu had previously split with her former coach, Korea’s Park Tae-Sang, in February 2023.

Sindhu had been training on and off with Hafiz Hashim at Hyderabad’s Suchitra Badminton Academy since the split, but she officially announced him as her coach on Tuesday. She expressed her enthusiasm on Twitter, saying, “HERE WE GO!! In typical Fabrizio style, I am thrilled to announce Hafiz Hashim as my new coach!! After a long, drawn-out process, I am ecstatic to declare that I have chosen the incredible Hafiz Hashim as my coach.”

Hafiz Hashim is a former all England champion and has the experience and pedigree that Sindhu was seeking in a coach. As a full-time coach, Hafiz Hashim will be working with Sindhu to help improve her rankings and performance. Sindhu is currently ranked world No. 17, which is her lowest ranking since January 2013.

Sindhu had formally requested the Sports Authority of India (SAI) to approve Hafiz Hashim as her coach, and her proposal was accepted last month. Hafiz Hashim has already joined Sindhu in Yeosu, where she is playing in the Korea Open, and he will also be accompanying her to the Japan Open, Australian Open, and the Asian Games.

As a player, Hafiz Hashim has achieved several medals at the Asian Games, Thomas Cup, and Sudirman Cup with Team Malaysia. He also won the singles title at the 2003 All England Open and a Commonwealth Games singles gold medal at Manchester 2002. After retiring from the sport, Hafiz took up coaching and had been with the Academy Badminton Malaysia before moving to Hyderabad in February.

Hafiz Hashim’s first challenge as Sindhu’s coach will be to help her regain her form and consistency, as she has had a poor season so far and has not won a single title on the BWF World Tour. Sindhu has had early exits in several tournaments this year and struggled to find her rhythm. With the guidance of her new coach, Sindhu hopes to improve her performance and reach new heights in her career.
