Emergency responders transported 37-year-old MacMahon to Princess Alexandra Hospital, where she remains in serious condition.

She suffered head and suspected spinal injuries, according to Queensland Ambulance Service.

Witnesses to the crash said the woman who struck MacMahon “ran through a red light at speed”, state Greens leader Michael Berkman said.

He said MacMahon’s injuries were not life-threatening.

“She’s responsive and resting in hospital,” he said on Tuesday.

“It will be a few days before we know the full picture as health teams continue to assess her condition.”

Paramedics treated the driver of the Hyundai, a woman in her 20s, for chest, abdominal and suspected spinal injuries.

She was taken to hospital in a stable condition.

“I know our first responders took great care of her. We wish her a speedy recovery.”
