The government of India is determined to establish a strong presence in the global semiconductor industry within the next decade. As part of this initiative, seven chip design startups have been approved for funding and support to develop their products, according to Minister of State for Electronics and IT, Rajeev Chandrasekhar. He expressed optimism about India’s future in the global semiconductor ecosystem, highlighting the opportunities for startups to explore deep tech and semiconductor design. The government has also launched the Digital India RISC-V programme (DIR-V) and many startups and incubation centers associated with academic institutions are focusing on the future of RISC-V and its compatible devices. Additionally, the CDAC announced a partnership with Arm, a leading semiconductor IP company, to empower semiconductor startups in India through the “Arm Flexible Access for Startups” program. This collaboration aims to drive innovation in the semiconductor industry by developing groundbreaking technologies in areas such as AI, autonomous vehicles, and IoT. Furthermore, two more startups/MSMEs involved in semiconductor design have been included in the ‘SemiconIndia futureDESIGN DLI’ scheme. These startups, Aheesa Digital Innovations Pvt Ltd and Calligo Technologies, specialize in telecom, networking, cybersecurity, HPC, Big Data, and AI/ML. The scheme provides financial incentives and design infrastructure support for the development and deployment of semiconductor designs for Integrated Circuits (ICs), Chipsets, System on Chips (SoCs), Systems & IP Cores, and semiconductor linked designs over a five-year period. Additionally, a collaboration has been initiated between the Centre for Nano Science and Engineering at the Indian Institute of Science, Bengaluru, and Lam Research India through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).
